Coravin Motor Testing Rig

Problem: ​

At Coravin a new endeavor has been the Vinitas system. This system was designed for wineries & distributors. Vinitas fractionalizes premium wine into a single serve format. As the devices have been in use around the world there have been a few motors in systems that have failed prematurely. The motors are a crucial aspect that move a linear stage allowing wine to be put into the sample bottles.

 

Action:

Designed and built a test rig:​

• Continuously ran motors in real world conditions

• Kept track of cycles performed by motors

• Recorded error if any that happened during cycles

• 3D printed sample bottle holder & fixture

• Fixed sample bottles in correct position

• Allowed for easy replacement of sample bottles

• Molded acrylic protective shield

• Worked cross-functionally with systems engineer

 

Result:

 A test rig was created that ran motors continuously, recreating problems seen in the field. The field for this system is all over the United States, Europe, & Australia. Being able to recreate the problems in house cut out large costs as engineers did not have to fly around the world to see the problems first hand. The test rig brought about different issues that were noted by users and brought up to the supplier allowing the current motors to be reworked and future motors to be adjusted.
